Aug 7, 2023 – AKA Virtual (CEO Shen Jia, Tokyo, Japan), embarked on a new collaborative effort with SEGA Corporation (hereinafter called “SEGA”) on the latter’s iconic mascot - SONIC THE HEDGEHOG (hereinafter called “SONIC”). SONIC will be meeting fans in a cute 3D version on SEGA’s official TikTok account from today in a mini series called “SONIC & FRIENDS”. The series includes other beloved characters such as AMY ROSE (hereinafter called “AMY”), MILES “TAILS” PROWER (hereinafter called “TAILS”), KNUCKLES THE ECHIDNA (hereinafter called “KNUCKLES”), and DR. EGGMAN. The group will be seen in a variety of short-form content that is created using AKA Virtual’s motion capture technology.
SEGA SAMMY HOLDINGS INC. has invested in AKA Virtual in Q3 2022 and has remained an important partner for AKA Virtual. “SONIC & FRIENDS” is an exciting up-and-coming project led by SEGA’s team and created by AKA Virtual.
SONIC is one of the most popular game characters since the 1990s. The SONIC series has gone on to develop from games to comics and even animation movies. The SEGA team looks to expand the SONIC universe with a new Generation Z audience through engaging short-form content with “SONIC & FRIENDS”.
AKA Virtual has been supporting brands and IP owners with an affordable and quick-turnaround animation production process using AKA Virtual’s in-house proprietary animation broadcasting & productions software. With “SONIC & FRIENDS”, AKA Virtual has an in-house team that recorded motions in the AKA Virtual Studio and completed its post productions.
